this was what i wrote for a debate "Negativity or positivity what leads to gr8ness":

If I start deciphering the topic as given to us “Negativity or Positivity what leads to greatness”, everthing I look seems abstract or rather relative. The question remains why . Let us start with greatness . “greatness is one word that in today’s scenario , If we talk in layman’s term , is what is perceived by the greater mass of people and nothing in it now relates to the real ability of a person. Lets relate it to our country’s only religion “cricket” , our teams good performance in one series makes our players idolatory and the entourage following them grows exponentially ,but the debacle in the very next series leads to a conviction that its all a lucrative business and thet they are for no good. Due to such flickering attitudes that people have , the word “greatness” has lost its very definition. But this is not what I am here to defend . I am here to speak in favour of “ negativity in life” , how it helps us to achieve where we really want to be , and that is how I define “Greatness”.

The first thought that springs up in any of our minds when we hear the word “negativity” is something detterent , something that inhibits our growth for the better, something that makes life tougher, something that no one would like to have in his or her life .

But the only word that comes to my mind when I hear it is “caution”, something that tells us to think before taking each step ahead , something that makes our results more satisfying , something that in the end helps us feel that whatever tough times I came across in achieving my goal , in the end was fruitful. What makes the difference here is the attitude.

someone said :”Tough times do not long last but tough people do”. What if negativity makes life tough , I do agree it does but how? It just makes you analyse things in a way that you could never have done being an optimist.i know its tough and one has to toil hard but it obliterates the very sense of uncertainity. An optimist usually takes things in an offhand manner not going into the details of things assuming that everything would go gr8 and as according to him . But that is not what the real case is and that is not what happens always. Exceptions are always there , though .If you have faith in what u do , being a part of the pessimist group would definitely help, in accomplishing your faith.

One more thing that comes to ma mind is “contentment” or “complacency” . An opmitst has loads of both these commodities but a pessimist doesn’t and this is what really helps him or her in continuing a trend that leads to perennial growth , something that in today’s scenario is essential for survival, whether it be any industry.

Lets take an example of Mr E.Sridharan , the man behind the continual expansion of the metro across India. Metro could have been built much earlier but is taking its due time because of the negativity in the teams approach . The people working out there are taking their time to analyse each and every ill possibility that might occur and thus overcome them . Thus in this case negativity is helping us build something concrete.

Optimism on the other hand most of the times leads to overconfidence, a characteristic that deteriorates conditions . An optimist’s approach towards a work would be that everything that goes wrong can be rectified , but a pessimists approach would be to analyse things to such an extent that nothing goes wrong………. Its now on you to decide what to prefer rectification or perfection!!!!!!!
